PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE
OF DATES FOR THE
FESTIVALS IN 2012
THIS HAS BEEN ARRANGED
DUE TO THE AVAILABILITY
OF THE PAVILION
We welcome any new competitors and their families and friends together with all those who like to come and watch or
listen to the classes in the Dance Section, the Speech & Drama Section or the Music Section.
There is a cafe at the Dance Venue and there is a refreshment area serving hot and cold drinks during the breaks as
well as snacks in the Natural Science Society. Sandwiches may be ordered, but they need to be done so first thing in
the morning to allow time for the caterers to prepare them.
We ask that younger members are accompanied whenever inside the Bournemouth Natural Science Society, the
Bournemouth Pavilion, the Bishop of Winchester Academy or all car parks and grounds and that good behaviour is
paramount.

"Music at St Clements" has already hosted 3 successful concerts with winners from the Bournemouth Music Competitions Festival,
both for under 19s and adults. These concerts are led by Jack Maguire and his elite ensemble, Stromenti who are resident at the
nearby St Clements Church in Boscombe. Jack is also leader of the Orchestra of Southern Pro Musica, former co-leader of the BSO
and a previous leader of the Royal Ballet Orchestra. These concerts are attended by the Mayor of Bournemouth and supported by
Bournemouth Rotary and Princecroft Willis.

The Bournemouth Music Competitions Festival hopes to collaborate in a unique experimental project. Festival contestants can be
coached by Stromenti, principal wind players from the Philharmonia and perform in public concerts at St Clements, alongside the
ensemble.

Workshops and concerts will take place at weekends and holiday periods. The project will be affordable and friendly. The ensemble,
which includes music staff at Canford School, Brockenhurst College, National Youth Orchestra and National Children's Orchestra, has
a strong reputation for working with young musicians.

The proposed workshops are likely to include:
A string playing day on (for example) Elgar Introduction and Allegro.
A folk fiddle day with accordion and rhythm section.
An orchestral weekend with Peter Stark.
Winners and runners up concerts adults and children, accompanied by Stromenti.
A wind band day.
Choir concerts accompanied by Stromenti.

Bournemouth Music Competitions Festival is delighted to be working alongside Jack Maguire and his Stromenti ensemble. Please
support us.

More detail about this project will follow in May, in the Music Speech and Drama programme, subject to successful grant funding.
Keep an eye on www.bmcf.info, and in the meantime, please register an interest either as a teacher or a participant, by sending your

After countless years of service to the Festival we are very sad that Paddy Howard has decided to
take a well-earned retirement from the Committee. We shall miss her knowledge and experience
and are delighted that she has agreed to continue as a Steward for forthcoming Festivals.
